I posted yesterday looking back at the season Blues just concluded and had a bit of a negative view on Chris Davies achievements for the 2025/26 campaign, many of you agreed and I had a couple messages about this rumour of Blues bringing in Thomas Frank for next season.

I hold my hands up to not knowing anything other than what we all see of the inner workings of the club. I do often wonder where these kind of rumours come from, if it’s people in the know or just people putting out there what they want to happen. We all have our own opinions of what should happen and when we’re down the boozer it’s easy to link with available managers saying the club should bring in x, y or z and personally I think this is where this one has arisen from.
As we all enjoy a bit of speculation I thought I’d throw my two penneth worth in here and say I personally am not convinced it will happen. I saw it suggested on BCFC Talk that there were already discussions underway and while it makes sense for conversations to commence, Thomas Frank has just signed up for commentary on the World Cup. I’m not sure he’s therefore going to be having managerial discussions alongside this as it means he will essentially need to either iron out the details before June or once he returns from the Americas in July giving just over a month to get the house in order.
Frank would certainly be a manager many of us would be happy with, I also suspect he is someone who would meet what our owners are looking for in a manager. Frank also has one promotion to his name having guided Brentford to the promised land as well as managing to not only keep them there but punch above their weight, to the degree that it caught Tottenham’s eye and he was brought in there. While he didn’t succeed there, Spurs is a basket case of a club, he has shown he can succeed with the proper infrastructure. I suppose therefore it’ll be one for Frank to mull over if (And it’s a big if still) there is any truth in talks ongoing or even truth in Blues planning to switch manager.
That said we know what these owners can be like, they have stuck with Davies more than Eustace and it would suggest they’ve learnt their lesson from the Rooney fiasco so won’t be too rash making changes nor make changes based on a name. That said they have shown they can be ruthless when needed so given Davies rocky season a contingency plan will no doubt be in their minds even if they’re not specifically looking to make a change right now, they will surely be looking at all options open to them and if Frank isn’t ready just now will they want to invest a load in the summer to then change who is at the helm eight near the end of this.

Personally I feel as though Davies has taken us as far as he can but is this opinion reflective of the owners? The flip side of it, being devils advocate, is that this season wasn’t a huge disaster and finished quite strongly. The Project is still on, it’s not necessarily a set back that we didn’t go up but rather that the optimistic target wasn’t met, however worst case scenario wasn’t even flirted with. It wouldn’t particularly surprise me to see Davies in charge next season, I’d be more surprised to see Frank in charge than I would to see Davies. I feel that the owners like him, he is doing a decent enough job and based on the end of the season they may potentially give him the summer and look to make a change in November (I’d have said October international break but that’s scrapped now for an extended September one) depending on how things are going.
It’s all speculation as there is no official news of Davies going, I think these kind of rumours will ramp up during the summer, especially with limited transfer speculation due to the World Cup!
