Can The Goals Keep Flowing?

The joys seem to be continuing, and I say that cautiously so as not to scare them off, but at the weekend Blues scored four goals at home for the third consecutive game. It’s the first time that Blues have managed this since 1958 and has reaffirmed St Andrews as an impenetrable fortress.

It was another game with plenty of positives to take from it, not just the result, and hopefully it’s an indication that Blues really have turned a corner. Every player looks comfortable in their position and it has proven to be a winning formula for sure, but there will still be question marks tonight as we face Baggies on the road.

I’ve also seen a lot of praise for Jay Stansfield and rightly so. Stanno does find himself at the end of a lot of envious fans chants, his potential was seen and highly valued by Blues but Jay himself had no real say in the transaction itself beyond wanting to leave Fulham to join Blues. He spoke in the documentary about the issues that his price tag has caused him mentally but I think slowly it is starting to look good value for money over the last couple of seasons, and that doesn’t touch on what he brings with his presence so it was great to see him bag a brace.

The three points has jumped us up the table in what is a very competitive Championship. The win at the weekend put us 9th but with a couple of games being played last night we find ourselves sitting in 10th place as we head to the Hawthorns tonight in search of a first win on the road in just over a month. Three points tonight could potentially see us go 5th if Millwall and Bristol drop points tonight. I suppose though the most important bit is that Blues find the win.

Baggies are going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment, currently sitting 17th albeit only three points behind us, they’ve won just one of their last six games but these both came at home which sort of indicates to me that like Blues they enjoy the home advantage. In fact their last defeat at home came against Derby in September but they’ve also not particularly had a tough run at home.

I would like to see Blues replicate their home form tonight and smash Baggies, as I’m sure we all would, it’s not out of the realms of possibility and Blues are going up through the gears so it’s time we got the away form purring like the home form. My prediction for tonight is 2-0 Blues!
