Absolute Filth!

Blues managed 11 goals in 12 games this season, then went on to bang in eight goals in two! The drought of goals seems to have come to have finally ended and the team really look as though they’re singing from the same hymn sheet, they’re attacking minded with very few side to side and back to the keeper passes.

I must admit, last night I didn’t expect another 4-0 performance and thought it would be a 1-0, especially given how well Millwall had been doing, so I will even hold my hands up and say that at one point I questioned if it was worth going down in the pouring rain. The answer was of course that it was worth it.

Millwall came to St Andrews as the most in form team on the road but that all came crashing down as Davies named the same 11 that did so well at the weekend. It’s an 11 that I think most fans are agreed on as being our strongest starting line up. It certainly looked like it as Blues were comfortable on the ball from the off.

I’d say Blues were slightly more clinical with their chances, we weren’t sat there thinking we should have been one or two up before the first goal went in. Paik scored at the weekend and found himself opening the scoring on Tuesday and deservedly so. Paik is one of those players you can’t help but like, Davies has repeatedly told us he has goals in him and now we seem to be seeing that come through.

Gray doubled the lead before half time and I’m struggling to remember the last time we went in at the break two goals clear. I’m sure it wasn’t that long ago if I had a gander on Google but the fact it doesn’t spring easily to the memory demonstrates how much of a rarity it is.

The player that seems to be catching the imagination at the moment is Roberts who seems to be involved in creating most the opportunities down that right hand side for Blues. He seems to be intuitive and finds himself in great space, he runs at the defence and his end ball is solid as well, he was instrumental in at least two of the goals. He is quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite and I think we’re all hoping we might be able to convert it to a permanent move come the end of the season.

When the second half kicked off I wondered what Blues we would see. I did expect them to sit back a little but once again the came out firing and I was half way down the steps of the Kop on the way back to my seat when Cochrane connected with that bullet that smashed into the back of the net.

I have found Cochrane a bit hit or miss with his crosses and shots, I mean that clear shot at the weekend that nearly hit the corner flag was fresh in my mind, but this rocket was flying into the back of the net no doubt. Yes it took a little deflection but we’ll take that! Now surely Blues would sit back you’d think but you’d be wrong, we kept up the energy and went on to further extend our lead with Stanno getting the fourth.

I really think this in itself is a huge change that we’ve seen since the last international break as we previously would have slowly found a first and then sit back inviting pressure on themselves. Instead we pushed on for more and more, even at four we seemed to be looking for more, the reason I think this is huge is because it shows a desire to win convincingly and this has been a criticism of both Davies and the team previously.

It’s been a promising couple of games and the table is now looking much better as Blues sit within the top ten spots. Coventry look like the team to beat as they managed to turnaround a deficit and come back to win at the weekend themselves but if Blues keep up this form we will be climbing the places between us and them. Let’s see how things go on the road at the weekend!
