A Must Win Already?

Blues are back in action tonight in the first of a double header this week, we face Sheffield Wednesday at St Andrews amid a terrible background for one of footballs iconic clubs. Sheffield Wednesday are suffering ownership that is looking much worse than our bad times and today’s news that the staff, not just players but everyone associated with the Owls, won’t be paid is quite frankly abhorrent. The EFL’s incompetence at times like these rips communities apart.

Blues will be looking to continue an unbeaten home run in the league and in reality, amid the backdrop above, it will be embarrassing if Blues come away with anything less than three points. The performance at the weekend was terrible, there’s not one person I have spoken to who has said any different, it’s not what we’ve grown accustomed to with Blues and if that performance is repeated tonight I think that fans will begin to doubt the process.

Davies is inexperienced at this level and arguably had done well so perhaps criticism is a bit harsh, but even the mid-table-consolidation gang expect a bit more than we are seeing on the pitch. I genuinely don’t think anyone would be getting concerned yet if the defeats we faced looked as though we competed, I think ultimately the biggest concern is how out our depth we looked in the defeats.

Rooney will always be benchmark for bad decisions by Wagner and Co so it’s easy to think they’re going to be conflicted; we’re not doing as well as we were at this stage under Eustace but we’re also not doing as poorly as we did under Rooney. Stability is essential in my opinion so I wouldn’t be pushing to switch things up, to be fair I remember being surprised fans wanted rid of Eustace because “the football was boring”, so we’re lucky the football has been riveting since, but what I look for from a manager is someone who can bring the fight out of players, regardless of their ability. In the past it was literally all I asked for.

Blues will have a few injuries tonight to contend with after Ducksch went off injured during the warm up at the weekend and Laird injured himself during the game but I think there is no excuse tonight. If Blues don’t win convincingly it’s got to be alarm bells in my opinion and with Wrexham away so soon after tonight’s game Blues will need to work hard to avoid a disappointing seven day period!

My prediction tonight is 2-0 though to Blues, I know that’s not the Blues way and when everything aligns like this we’ll be on the end of a shock defeat but I just want to hope that’s the old Blues and we don’t succumb to these issues. I mean we can all hope!
