Blues thankfully got back to winning ways at the weekend as Limbdon Dykes bagged a late winner in a game that seemed much better than the previous games away from home. It keeps Blues in the top 10 and 6 points off the top spot which will hopefully allow Blues to maintain momentum.

In the build up to the game there was a slight bit of concern creeping in from fans, questions were being asked of the team and of Davies that we’ve not had to ask since he took charge. When expectations are high the standards are anticipated to be the same but I think it’s imperative that the players and Davies don’t allow a poor string of results to get in their head so returning to winning ways was very important, but we’re away from St Andrews today!
Blues remain undefeated at St Andrews in the League, something which stretches back to the start of last season, while on the road our back to back defeats occurred. We know Knighthead have worked hard to make the matchday experience better for fans but have also encouraged fans to really step up and be the 12th man, this is great but the lads then need to be able to channel this energy without just shy of 30,000 fans behind them.
Part of what it makes me think is that maybe the squad isn’t quite jelled yet and the players get that boost off us as the fans. Today Blues are on the road again as we head just up the A45 and face our former tenants, Coventry. We’ve ended a run of defeats overall but we need to end our run of defeats on the road today, if we don’t I think it’s got to be a bit of a worry.
We have had a win on the road so I could be setting myself up for panic stations a bit too soon but I don’t think Coventry will be an easy game today, although they have gone off the pace after a fantastic opening couple of games. If Blues succumb to a third successive defeat on the road Davies will need to look at it and see who isn’t pulling their weight because we can win every game at home but if we’re not picking points up on the road it will certainly be a season a mediocrity.
I think today will be a tough test for Blues, personally just stop the rot and get a point on the road seems enough. I’d like to come away with all three points and in all fairness if we’re going to seriously challenge this season we should be beating Coventry. My prediction however is 0-0.
