Three Points on Saturday, Cup Progression on Tuesday!

Laptop issues over the weekend stopped me from doing a post match reflection so I’m wrapping a look at the game at the weekend in with a look ahead to tonight’s League Cup fixture against Port Vale.

So firstly to reflect on Blues victory, our first League Home win of the 2025/26 campaign, the win that extends our unbeaten home run to 27 games (The fortress is back!) which in itself is an impressive achievement. Since Davies came in Blues have been solid at home, as it shows, which the owners and players may well say is down to the fans, I think it’s down to Davies!

Blues have grind out results where necessary, it’s not all pretty football still that’s for sure, but when you can do that it goes leaps and bounds towards a successful season. It can make things a bit boring, especially when our opponents sit back and defend for 90 Minutes (Although that too can be a successful style of play), but a win is a win no matter how you secure it.

There have been some notable areas that need improvement but that will come with both time and better competition. The biggest complaint I’ve seen is that Blues aren’t taking their chances and seeing the game off early, it’s a complaint I’d have to second to be fair. Blues have been dominate in possession, in shots and chances but still are just winning games 1 or 2 goals. When you look down the A45 and see Cov banging in 12 goals during their first two games.

In a competition like tonight’s, given the performance we put it against Sheffield United, I’d like to see Blues go for it and get goals under their belt. Kyogo netted the opener in this one and I anticipate he’ll start again so hopefully can bag a couple and give his League tally a boost.

Port Vale will definitely sit back though and so it will be difficult again for Blues to run rampant in but you almost feel that in the next few games we need to give a team a hiding to really run away with things. I know it’s only the EFL Cup and there will be a weakened team put out by Davies but a rampant victory still ripples throughout the squad!
