Blues vs Oxford: Let’s Keep The Momentum

Blues are back in action today looking to extend a solid start to the season and protect our unbeaten home run as we face Oxford United at St Andrews @ Knighthead Park. As I’m writing this the sun is popping out from behind the clouds giving me optimism for the day ahead.

Oxford United have yet to win in the League this season although I’m sure they will feel frustrated not to have come away with a point against Hull at the weekend. It’s no doubt not going to be a walkover but I think Blues will be optimistic that we can take all three points from this one.

Despite failing to register a win Oxford like to get a shot off, they’ve managed 29 ten more than Blues in their first two league fixtures. This suggests they’re not afraid to shoot on sight, especially given they have had limited possession as well. It’s probably more a point of note though because with Neumann and Klara at the back there’s no worries.

Blues will be without Cochrane for this one after he was brought off injured against Blackburn. I imagine we will see a start for Laird, especially after his involvement in winning the penalty that brought us level the other day. It’s another of those instances where I’m not concerned, I think Laird will be able to step up and start without it weakening Blues such is the strength of our depth.

It suggests Oxford could be tricky on the counter, especially as I’m confident we’ll continue to maintain possession, but ultimately I think Blues will be able to do enough for all three points. After having gone behind to Blackburn and of course not coming away with all three points against Ipswich, I think Blues will be looking for a statement performance and I hope we’ll get to see chances converted earlier.

My prediction for today is 2-0 Blues.
