Blues wrapped up pre-season with a victory over “Mr Marinakis” Forest, keeping our unbeaten home streak going. It was a game where Blues were very much the better side, but you could tell it was a friendly to be fair. That said we still looked comfortable against Premier League opposition!
It wasn’t just about the football though as the fixture was the Trevor Francis Memorial Fixture, Blues brought two of his former clubs together as we unveiled a statue in front of the Kop in memory of arguably the best player to put on the Blue and White shirt. Statues can be hit and miss at times, we’ve all seen that Ronaldo statue at Madeira Airport from a few years ago, but this one is a really good statue so the club have done really well there.

The football itself then was free-flowing and confident from the lads, it gives hope to a solid season ahead. I say that Forest didn’t turn up with the pure intensity of a competitive match but they’ve got a week to go before the need to hit the ground running. They are still Premier League opposition though and enjoyed a very successful season last season so you can put a slight benchmark against the result and use that for our season in the Championship ahead.
Stansfield got the only goal of the game as he drilled in a low shot, with their keeper getting a hand to it but unable to stop it from hitting the back of the net. Most the players had a decent game, Keshi looks like he’s ready to hit the Championship running and there’s not a bad word to say about any of the new additions. I’m excited now, roll on Friday!
