Tommy Wagener, He’s One of Our Own!

We had the end of season awards at the weekend and I think many people will say the awards went to the players we assumed, I think a few people wanted Keshi as player of the season but nonetheless there were no real surprises. Tommy Wagner took the mic and led the show though I’d say.

Tom Wagner, I’d genuinely be remiss not to post a feature for him because this guy has taken Blues on and taken us to his heart, gaining our hearts in return. One of the biggest complaints over the bad years was the lack of communication, the lack of care, the invisibility and of course the way the club was run. Wagner and Co. have come in and not just ticked boxes but genuinely been passionate about the project, something that transitions business, sport and even life. If you are passionate about something, there is something about that that other component parts can feed off, once everyone is riding that feeling there is nothing that can’t be achieved.

I’m sure most fans will have seen his speech by now but if not I’ve got a link to it [here] but it was a very honest, very passionate speech from the owner and it got me thinking about how much Blues means to him already. The fact that his biggest concern wasn’t the financial repercussions (Business implications), the status repercussions or even just the defeat of it (Wagner isn’t a fan of defeat) but us blows my mind. Wagner was worried about us, about letting us down! An owner said that! An owner couldn’t sleep because of letting us down. This is the sign of something special, something that makes me believe, something I an eager to get onboard with.

I’m not going to lie, and I’m sure over on lockthelocks I’d have written as much at the start, but when these owners came in I was so downbeat, so defeated, that I did not believe anything was going to be a real improvement. I was anticipating the same shit on the pitch but with more of a going concern vibe. These owners have not just done that but taken us to levels we couldn’t have dreamt of before commercially, especially not in the lower division.

Imagine five years ago saying Blues would sell out regularly in the third tier, that every retro top you ever wanted would be re-released, that there’d be a fan park, there’d be events, fireworks, the owners would buy fans pints, there would be a cup run, we’ll get the global points record and everything else that I’ve missed. There is an entirely different vibe around the whole place.

Wagner is such a charismatic individual, it’s not often fans love their owners as much as we love Tom but it’s clear he is essentially a social chameleon. He can be stood in the stands in a hoody, presenting at an awards ceremony or even courting government officials to get investment into the city as a whole. If ever there was a positive future for Blues it is now and everything he said in his speech I believe and I can’t wait to celebrate together for years to come! Up The Blues! Keep Right On!
