The Penultimate Fixture!

Blues play their penultimate game of the season tonight as we head to Blackpool to play our rearranged fixture. I’m sure there’s a few fans who’d planned to make a weekend of it, but hopefully they’ve booked a few days off work and can enjoy Blackpool in this banging weather!

The last home game of the season on Sunday is one that will genuinely live long in the memory of Bluenoses for years to come, the main mission is complete and the players are now just ticking off the side quests. Blues have beat the League One record points tally and can match the EFL record points tally with a draw tonight, or beat it with a win. Allsop looks set to secure the Golden Glove, Stansfield could chase down the Golden Boot as he currently sits 2 goals behind the League One top scorer Charlie Kelman. Blues have already won their most fixtures in a season ever but there’s always room for two more.

While Blues will be playing for the records, Blackpool have nothing left to play for. They currently sit 9th in the table with no way of hitting play offs, the highest they can finish is 8th and to do that they need to win tonight and their next game which is something I can’t really see. In fact their last three fixtures half suggest to me the Blackpool players may well have already taken their foot off the gas as I suggested the other day would happen for the teams we were facing in our last four fixtures.

Blackpool come into this one with a mixed bag of results in their last five games having won two, lost two and drawn one. It’s a mid week game so not all the home fans will attend you’d imagine, plus Saturday is their last home game of the season so tonight I really believe they will just be going through the motions which will work very much in Blues favour. It will allow the team to play at a lower intensity I suspect, but with Blues ability to retain the ball it’s just what we need and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another two or three goals tonight.

The only thing that goes against Blues is that when Blues have faced a team three times this season, these seem to be the teams that eventually beat us. Blues have beaten Blackpool in the FA Cup but were held to a draw at St Andrews in the League making this fixture the third and therefore potentially the riskiest for Blues. That said I’m just creating a narrative to install a false sense of jeopardy and I doubt Blues will suffer their fourth league defeat of the season tonight.

My prediction for this one is 3-0 Blues.
