Promotion At The Barry Fry Derby?

Blues face Peterborough tonight in the league, ahead of facing them at the weekend at Wembley, with the chance to seal promotion tonight by securing just 2 points. This of course essentially means Blues can seal promotion without winning but I’d suggest Blues will want to warm up for the weekend tonight.

2 points for promotion, 5 points for the league. It’s on, isn’t it! Assuming Blues win tonight, off the back of that 6-2 thrashing of Barnsley, it doesn’t matter what happens elsewhere we’re simply promoted. If we drop points but Wycombe also drops points we’re still promoted but it does push the title back a little. I mean at the minute we’re the only team guaranteed to be in the play offs (Not that I’d be suggesting that’s where we end up) so it shows how open it still is really.

Peterborough themselves come into this one off the back of a bit of a thumping against Northampton, losing 4-0 at the weekend. For Peterborough Promotion isn’t attainable so they may well find themselves looking to not push too hard, save themselves for the weekend and use tonight as a bit of an exercise to weigh Blues up.

Personally I wouldn’t be surprised to see Blues relax a little tonight, I think we’ll see a similar team to the weekend but with a bit more rotation throughout the game. I know we subbed at the weekend but I mean I don’t think any of our key players (Stansfield, Anderson, Paik, Laird) will get a full 90 minutes tonight. I think though that in itself gives a few players an opportunity to throw their name in the hat for the weekend.

Peterborough had started the league campaign quite well but have fallen off throughout the season. When the two sides met each other earlier in the season, at St Andrews, Blues found themselves two goals behind in under 15 minutes. I think it’s fair to say tonight we want to be clear sailing, we want second half Barnsley performance, we want 6!

In all honesty though I do think we’ll win tonight and I’m going 3-1 Blues!
