Blues secured their place in the Vertu Trophy final last week and so whilst this piece won’t quite be Blues related, it does impact us as the second Semi Final takes place tonight when we’ll learn if it’s Wrexham or Peterborough Blues face at Wembley on 13th April.

The double is on the cards for Blues this season, there’s talk of just six more wins needed to secure the league and of course it’s just one more game for the Vertu Trophy. It’s not the most prestigious of awards I won’t dispute that, but the winning mentality needed to really push forward over the course of the next few years means that we should surely try to win anything within our power. The Vertu Trophy is definitely this.
Tonight’s semi final kicks off at 19:30 and probably won’t see a lightshow or fireworks but both teams will be looking to make it to the final. Wrexham being the original Hollywood club will no doubt be favourites, especially with a home leg, but Peterborough want to be the fairy tale story by beating not just Wrexham but Blues as well. They had enjoyed a solid start to the League One campaign but have since fallen down the table to 20th place and come into this having won two of their last five league games, losing one and drawing the remaining two.
Wrexham haven’t faired too much better of late, they’ve won one game more than Peterborough in their last five but the two other games were both defeats. This will surely give Peterborough belief they can cause an upset. I wouldn’t mind it myself either although Wrexham have already beaten Peterborough twice in the league this season.
I’m sure however, the EFL want’s it to be a Blues Wrexham final, it’s fair to say that it would offer a glitz and glammer that the competition doesn’t usually get thanks to both teams celebrity interest. Brady Deadpool III: The Silverware with the tag of; “This time, winner takes all!” could easily be how it’s billed. It would be almost certainly shown in that immersive experience place over in America (We’ve all seen it but I can’t quite remember what it’s called or where it is and to be fair it doesn’t matter enough here for me to Google it, is that ridiculously lazy?) and would have Yanks getting overly excited, maybe clapping their hands and jeering mildly offensive insults as they pick sides. That’s all a bit tongue in cheek but the attraction over the pond aside, it would also stir an unusual level of interest over here too.
I personally would want Peterborough and I’m going to come across disrespectful here but it’s because I feel it would be an easier fixture for Blues to win once April 13th does come around. I might day the Vertu Trophy isn’t the most prestigious but doesn’t mean I don’t want every advantage possible to win it. Wrexham have upped their intensity when playing Blues so I think they’d throw the kitchen sink at this one. Not saying Peterborough wouldn’t, just that I’d feel a tad more nervy about Wrexham doing it.
