Striking Similarities

Blues head to the Madejski Stadium (Or as it’s now catchily known; the Select Car Leasing Stadium) in an early kick off today, looking to continue steamrolling to the title without the help of Stansfield for the moment.

The joys are returning to St Andrews but it has been a really tough ride to get us here. I must admit I wasn’t aware until today, but it seems that Reading are in a fairly similar position to the one we’ve just emerged from. Their owner, Dai Yongee, has presided over an abysmal period since taking charge of Reading in 2017, the day after the secured a Play-Off Final.

Since then, they may not have stands falling down, or an owner being imprisoned but they have suffered relegation to the third tier, points deductions and rather tellingly have be subject to winding-up petition over unpaid taxes. Financial mismanagement, rife at the Blues under both Carson and TTA, is still visible at Reading and as of yet they’ve not had their Knight(head) in shining armour come in and pay what their owner wants to re coup for the club.

Reading have been less fortunate after dropping into League One, finishing 17th last season. They are faring a little better this year and sit a more respectable 9th in the League and came away with all three points against Rotherham last weekend. With Blues conjested fixture period and injuries to Leonard and Stansfield to contend with, it won’t be an easy ride for the League One leaders. I suspect therefore we will see May start up front again, potentially in partnership with Dykes.

Blues are however riding high and should have enough to still get past Reading. They’re another club that Blues may feel they dropped points against this season as we face them in the opening game of the season in a hard fought draw which Blues were behind in a fair portion of the game. It was tough then and I suspect it will be tough now, more so being at their neck of the woods, but I think it’s fair to say Blues have hit their stride in comparison to that game.

My prediction today is 0-1 Blues!
