Blues are back in action today following a 4-0 dismantling of Cambridge in the week and, while Charlton will be tougher opposition, it’s difficult to see a result other than other three points on the board today.

Charlton come into this one on the back of victory over Peterborough thanks to a late goal from Macaulay Gillesphey, but even when Peterborough were down to ten men Charlton struggled to break to deadlock. That said Charlton are one of only two teams to have inflicted defeat on Blues and so we shouldn’t take our opponents too lightly. I’m hoping that the players themselves are also after revenge for the reverse fixture and to show Charlton what it means to come to the fortress that is St Andrews.
Blues will be without Marc Leonard who suffered that knee injury in the FA Cup against Newcastle but are boosted with Klarer being declared fit following a substitute appearance in the week. With both Paik and Willumsson both back in action there should be a near fully fit squad for Davies to pick from.
I think the result in the week has confirmed what Davies has been saying about the players building in confidence so hopefully we will see a couple of goals at least today. I know I’m not alone in thinking that when teams come to play against Blues and not just set up not to lose we do get a better performance out of the players, my prediction today is 2-0 Blues.
Head to Head
Charlton edge Blues on a head to head basis with 25 victories compared with Blues 22, the remaining 21 meetings between the pair have ended all square. As mentioned the last fixture saw Blues suffer a 1-0 defeat at the Valley. Blues haven’t beaten Charlton at St Andrews since 2015 either, which feels a bit of a bad omen if we weren’t performing as well as we are!
